Information-Artifact-Ontology (IAO): A Classic Revisit |

On June 9, 2008, a little boy ontology named Information Entity Ontology (IEO) has been introduced in the First Information Entity Ontology Workshop. The IEO was developed to achieve :

2008 the IEO graph
------------------------------------------

• Data integration at Web scale
• A hierarchy with an easily answerable decision at each branch point. So that people who wish to use the ontology can do so effectively and so that representation choices are consistently made the same way by different people.
• Account for decorated content – text and formatting. Text and subtext. Multiplexing.

------------------------------------------

The nearly 15-year-old IEO, except that it has changed his name to Information-Artifact-Ontology (IAO), has grown and thrived a lot. And also recognized Basic Formal Ontology (BFO) as foster father, in order to be brothers and sisters with OBI community. The latest version has been released on November 15, 2022:

WHO USES IAO ? The home of IAO says:

Basic Formal Ontology (BFO): A Classic Revisit |

11 years ago, I came into study Basic Formal Ontology (BFO) because of my research on event ontologies in crisis. Now BFO does not use SNAP and SPAN, but directly uses Continuant and Occurrent.  And the description of "event" doesn't seem to exist anymore.

After extensive application of BFO in the biomedical field, the owl version 1.1.1 was released in 2009, and BFO 2.0 was born in 2015.

I reviewed it and used the simplified Chinese version for reference. This new figure has class and property, combined with the Chinese-English version of the BFO 2.0, so that we can review the classics.

Basic Formal Ontology 2.0

WHO USES BFO ?  225 items/ontologies so far.

Remember the BFO 2004 version when he was a child, then meet the grown up 2020.

How to Solve the Covid Testing Data Problem By Faye Flam at

  • Many people are no longer taking PCR or rapid tests — even when they have symptoms. Better wastewater data can help.

 Opinions include |

Key points |

  •  " ... as testing dropped off, the wastewater measurements separated — showing new hills that weren’t visible from official testing data" | 隨著新冠檢測的減少,廢水測量結果——顯示了官方檢測資料中看不到的新山丘。
  • "... biologists tracking the Covid pandemic forecast a long purgatory..."
  • "It would also be a public health service to make sure that the data is presented simply and clearly, so that people can check it as effortlessly as they do the weather forecast. And just as with the weather, regular “Covid forecasts” should be featured on the local news — especially when a disaster is on the way."
